Fashions on the Field

With over $2,000 up for grabs, our Fashions on the Field competition is hotly contested each and every year.

The 2019 FOTF competition features nine categories for males and females of all ages. Our winners are selected by a panel of three guest judges.

Entrants are to present to the back of the Mick Robins Grandstand by 1.00pm. No prior nomination is necessary.

JUDGING CRITERIA

All categories will be judged based on the criteria below:

  • Style
  • Originality
  • Appropriateness for race day
  • Attention to detail
  • Grooming and deportment
  • Judges’ preference on the day

2019 Judging Panel

Shahna Smith MUA

Shahna Smith

Shahna is an ex-Broken Hill local, now based in Adelaide SA. Shahna is an internationally published Make-Up Artist, having worked on runway and magazine shoots for brands such as Lorna Jane and L’Oreal. Working closely with the Style Hutt team at their Adelaide storefront, Shahna brings a keen eye for detail and style to the St Pat’s judging panel.

Alanna Smith Adelaide SA

Alanna Smith

Alanna is a Fashion Stylist at Adelaide-based sustainable fashion house, Style Hutt. Style Hutt hire boutique focuses on making designer clothing accessible while minimising waste. Alanna is also a participant in Miss Universe 2019, raising funds for childrens charity, ToyBox International. Alanna brings knowledge of latest trends and personal style to the 2019 panel.

The Sandman Broken Hill

The Sandman

The Sandman, also known as Steve Abbott, rounds out our 2019 panel representing the Broken Hill Community Credit Union. Steve was a minor celebrity in the 1990’s, known mostly for playing a lugubrious phlegmatic character called The Sandman. He also worked in bands and doing stand up throughout the 80’s, and brings a spirit of fun to the Fashions on the Field judging panel.

Steve gained a national profile through his appearances on Triple J, and has also worked with ABC and SBS. He currently works as a screenwriter in Australia and internationally.
