Melissa Barnes

Melissa Barnes is a primary teacher, small business owner and a very busy Mum to 4 boys (including twins). She is no stranger to FOTF in South Australia and interstate. Melissa has been the SA ‘Fashion at the Races’ runner up two years in a row, the state finalist for the coveted Myer FOTF competition held during the Spring Racing Carnival at Flemington, and was ‘Face of the Balaklava Cup’ in 2019.

With the arrival of her twin boys Melissa has enjoyed taking a back seat to outfit planning for herself and now helps others complete their race day looks through her Designer Bag and Millinery hire business, Adorn Collection.

“My passion for FOTF started when I won at the Darwin Cup in 2012 wearing a headpiece I made myself. Back then I didn’t really know anything about racing fashion or designer handbags but now I am a bit obsessed”.

Melissa has never been to Broken Hill and is looking forward to travelling from Adelaide to judge the FOTF competition, “I think it’s great that there are so many categories, I’ve heard it’s a great day so I can’t wait to see all the wonderful outfits and enjoy some fun in the outback”.

Cathryn Meredith

Cathryn is the Founder and Publisher of Ladies in Racing and Ladies in Golf Magazines. She has worked in the publishing industry for over 30 years both in Australia and overseas across a wide range of industries including sport, fashion, beauty and travel.

Ladies in RACING Magazine is Australia’s only national magazine dedicated to the ladies who love the sport of Kings and Queens, thoroughbred racing.

Cathryn believes “Racing is a great social day out with friends and family and these days is about so much more than just the betting. It is a unique event and one of the few places where you can get dressed up and have the option of celebrating a birthday with friends, an anniversary with your loved one or a family picnic while the horses thunder past. It’s great to see so many more women openly embracing the racing industry.”

Mija Reynolds

Mija is an avid Fashion on the Field enthusiast and Milliner from the Flinders Ranges, SA. She says that she first discovered FOTF in 2011 when she moved from Broken Hill to the Flinders Ranges and has entered many FOTF competitions over the last 9 years. She has placed as an SA Fashion At The Races Regional Finalist 5 times and made top 5 in the State in 2018.

“FOTF, for me, is about dressing up and feeling great, expressing my aesthetic, meeting new people, supporting regional and outback race clubs and most of all, having fun. FOTF has also been a platform to showcase the hat making and personal styling skills I gained through online study. I’m keen to see the individual style of entrants shine through in their outfit choices.”
