Peter Selid

Sales Director | Fashion Industry Professional

Peter was born and raised in Sydney but has always felt a connection with rural life.

“I am the son of Hungarian immigrants who arrived in Australia after World War II with little more than the clothes on their backs. My grandfather was a tailor, and through determination and hard work the family built a successful rag-trade business from small city factory to a larger operation in Western Sydney, with retail stores across Sydney, Canberra and Melbourne. The business became well known under the slogan, “It’s a great bagga fruit, it’s a Selvitex Suit”. “

Continuing that legacy, I launched my fashion agency in Sydney in 1995. The early years were a leap of faith — budget motels, one meal a day, and learning the ropes as a commission agent but they instilled resilience, discipline and a deep respect for the craft of building brands.

Career highlights include introducing Ben Sherman to the Australian market, launching 90’s LA streetwear label Freshjive to Australia, teaming up with Nick Kelly with Industrie in 1999, and relaunching Country Road into the wholesale market. Today, I proudly represent Ringers Western, a brand I’m honoured to be associated with.

We have two beautiful daughters — our eldest studying in Wagga and the youngest studying in Sydney.

Outside of work I enjoy sailing on Pittwater and kayaking in Sydney Harbour.

I am humbled to be invited as a judge at the St Patrick’s Day Races in Broken Hill.

The 2026 Fashions on the Field competition features a new category – Most Quirkiest Best Dressed St Pats Outfit. This category will be open to men and women aged 16 years and above.
